How to Discover Your True Path By Lisa Pertrilli

A few days ago I came across this blog and thought I would share it with my readers. I hope you enjoy it just as much as I did.

Coach Linda Hillman

Here's the blog by Lisa Petrilli:
"We were all moved, and many of us shaken, by the loss of Steve Jobs last week.  He inspired us with his vision, his passion for his work and his creative genius.  We cheered him when he battled back from being fired at Apple.  We so badly wanted him to win his ultimate battle with his unrelenting foe.
In reflecting on his life and his beliefs, many of us watched the 2005 Commencement Speech Steve Jobs gave at Stanford University.  What stood out most to me are two, beautiful messages:
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
and
Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads off the well-worn path.  And that will make all the difference.
Steve Jobs is imploring these graduates to discover their True Path in life.  It’s a quest I’ve been on myself, lately, and I’ve discovered twelve critical lessons that I’ve decided to share in the hope they will prove valuable to you…
1. Look within yourself
This was the biggest surprise of all and the most valuable lesson.  All the answers to the questions of who you are meant to be in this world - and what you are meant to bring to this world – lie within you.  You simply have to know where to look and be open to listening to your own guidance from within.
I have learned the critical importance of spending quiet time each morning being still, quieting my mind, and being open to what my heart wants to tell me.  It’s how I connect to my True Self, and it enables me to lead from within as I move through each day.
Connecting with your inner self, your True Self, is the first and most important step to finding your True Path in life.
When we leave childhood behind we often leave behind our own sense of self.  We become sensitive to what other people think and to what they want us to be.  We may lose our own sense of self-expression, playfulness, and our ability to “let go” and feel a real sense of freedom.  In doing so we slip off our True Path without even knowing it.
Reconnecting with who we are within – who we are in our central core, in our soul – is the only way back to our True Path.
2. Ask courageously for what you need and want in your life
I know how difficult this can be.  You see, I had to ask for a kidney.  When I opened up my heart to believing in my own worthiness to make such a bold request of the universe, and to the possibility of actually receiving a kidney, a woman whom I had never met called me on the phone.  She told me she knew in her heart that if she was a match, she was meant to give me hers.
The courage to ask for what you need, and the sense of worthiness to ask for what you most desire, are critical ingredients to finding your True Path.
3. Accept that there is an inner light within you with power beyond your understanding
We all have a life force within us. You alone have the power to take this brilliant life force to the world.  As a leader, this is a true gift. It should be used wisely and to its greatest potential for the good of the world, and for the benefit of those you lead.
This was truly one of the most important and inherently powerful realizations on my journey.
4. Connect with and accept the beauty of your physical body
We humans spend a lot of time telling ourselves what’s wrong with our physical bodies, sometimes to the point of feeling disdain.  When we do this, we completely disconnect from our true selves and deny the most essential life gift we’ve received.  Discovering your True Path involves accepting and loving everything about your True Self, including the body through which you travel your path.
5. Let go of everything that is holding you back
Letting go can be so difficult, even as it seems so obvious. We hold onto our walls and our fears, sometimes because they’ve simply become comfortable.  We’re not quite sure how we’ll function without them.
You hear this often in regard to people who need to lose weight; they lose the weight only to find themselves uncomfortable psychologically because they have grown accustomed to their mindset of being overweight.  They haven’t closed the door on their old mindset in order to open a new door to the new path they are traveling.
You have to let go of what holds you back to create the freedom to move forward toward your True Path.
6. Stop lamenting and choose to move forward
Again, this may seem so obvious yet it’s easy to spend years and even decades lamenting the past rather than choosing to move forward.  There is a time and place to lament, but to find and travel your True Path you must consciously choose to begin moving forward.
Have you chosen to do so?
7. Observe, don’t absorb
I wrote an entire post on the power of these three words to change your whole outlook, but the gist is this:
We are faced with so much uncertainty, fear and stress in our world today.  Our success, and to a great degree our well-being, depend on being observers rather than absorbers.
If we absorb the uncertainty, fear and stress – particularly the fear and stress of other people – we lose our own sense of self, and we get easily knocked off of our True Path.
Although this is one of the most difficult steps in the True Path journey, it is one of the most critical.  Why?  Because we will always be around people and situations that have negative energy.  Always.  It is just a reality of our lives and of the world.
Those who live their True Path learn how not to take the uncertainty, fear and stress of others along with them…
8. Let go of what’s not on your path
Just as you don’t want to take the negative energy of others and of the world with you on your True Path, you have to come to terms with what you personally have to leave behind as well.
This was horribly difficult for me.  I had to finally accept that because of my kidney transplant and other factors in my life, I had to let go of the idea that some things I wanted were still ahead of me.  They aren’t. They are simply not on my True Path.  A part of me already knew this, but I hadn’t accepted it or worked through it until my recent journey.
Taking the time to mourn what’s not on your True Path with you is critical to moving confidently forward down the path.
9. Remember Abundance Comes From Within
Abundance lives within you and has expansive energy.
Remember as you come face-to-face with “lack” on your journey that it comes from “without” and is not nearly as powerful.
It is the fear of lack that fuels the lack, gives it energy and power, and creates a psychologically debilitating cycle.  When you are in fear it is very difficult to feel balanced, and virtually impossible to travel your True Path.
10. Open yourself up to receiving abundance
It may surprise you, but many of us block abundance from coming into our lives by surrounding ourselves with a fear of “lack.” That fear serves as a wall that actually keeps the abundance at bay.  Read that sentence again because it can literally change your life if you genuinely acknowledge it.
You have to let go of the fear, and you have to let go of the ways you hold onto that fear, in order to fully open yourself up to abundance!
11. Commit to staying in the present moment
You probably never thought of it this way but it is in the present moment that you hold and can wield all of your power.  You have absolutely no power over the past and the only power you have over the future is to affect it in the present.
The present is where your power exists, where doors open, and where your True Path unfurls.
Only in the present moment can you “be the change you want to see in the world,” as Gandhi instructed. If you are not living immersed in the present moment, then you are not living from your own strength and power.
When you are thoughtfully and energetically present with those around you, and when you give the gift of your presence and your energy that come from your inner self, you become more highly attuned to the moments when you stray from – or move closer to – your True Path.
12. Honor yourself
Ultimately, everything about the journey to discover your True Path comes back to honoring yourself.
Honor who you are in every moment, every single time.
Be mindful of the words you use.  When you put words out into the universe you give them power to be true. Honor yourself by speaking and thinking in ways that are true to who you are and to the brilliant light and power within you.
Honor yourself by doing the work to free yourself of what’s holding you back, by starting anew connected to your True Self, and by living on your True Path!
Wishing you all the best of life as you travel your own True Path…"

Transformation Is More Than A Change

Flora Slosson Wueller states in her book, Transformation: Our Fear, Our Longing, "Transformation involves more than mere adaptation to outer manipulation. Transformation implies new being...new creation rather than change."

So many are looking for a change in their situation, a relief of a painful circumstance, a minor manipulation of finances, etc... but real transformation eludes us. Oh we say we want to be transformed but we settle for a change.

Let me explain what I mean, change is inevitable. It occurs whether we want it or not. For example, change is being laid off my job, having a baby, getting married, changing careers, starting a new job or business etc. These are changes that occur in life whether wanted or not. Some we have control over and some we don't. Transformation is not always a part of change.

Change is movement from one situation to another, we hope change results in a better situation but all too often is results in simply put a change in life, Something different, not always better.

When transformation occurs it is more than movement from one situation to another. It is a difference that results in life altering patterns. Change and transformation are sometimes the cause and effect partners in our lives. Together they can bring about the opportunity to fully understand and embrace your life's purpose. We can through their co-mingling become the person we are meant to be.

Without change there can be no transformation. It is important to understand that change becomes transformative in a moment. Through change we can allow ourselves to embrace the greater presence of who we are. We allow this sense of something greater to inform us, instruct us, and empower us. Thus altering our lives for that moment on.

Another way to look at the difference of Change and transformation is this. You change your clothes daily, however, in doing so you are not revealing anything about who you are and why you exist. You simply do it out of habit. Have you ever gone to your favorite restaurant and they changed the menu? It takes you a moment to adapt to the change. You may even express some frustration but you eventually settle your thoughts and move on. It has not changed your opinion of the restaurant and the feelings you have for the most part remain. Change happens and we get over it.

On the other hand, have you ever wounded yourself and had to get stitches, may you broke a bone, or had to get surgery of some kind. In all these examples, there was a change that occurred that effected the future events of how you would live your life. Either you have a scar that will fade slightly but will always be there as a constant reminder of the injury, or some other visible reminder that you have been altered. Maybe it was a divorce or death in the family. transformation happens when the changes can not be reversed and require you to act differently.

Change is inevitable. It must occur often... but just as the caterpillar eventually has to go into the cocoon to transform into the butterfly...we must let our change yield to transformation to truly brace who we are.

Are you ready for change?

I came across this article and thought I would share it with you. - Coach Linda Hillman

You Don't Need More Willpower…
By Holly Brubach

Not being able to change doesn't mean we're lazy, stubborn, or weak. A pair of Harvard educators argue that our best-laid plans often fall through for smart, self-protective (and ingeniously hidden) reasons.

This past fall, 24 people gathered for a workshop at Harvard University, among them members of the university's human resources department, executives from nonprofit institutions, one labor union official, members of a prominent international consulting firm, a high school principal, a teacher—and me. We had signed up for the session to better understand why people struggle to make significant changes— why, for instance, their vows to improve their lives (go to the gym, be nicer, lose 10 pounds, drink less, clean up more, save money) are so often followed, sometimes in a matter of weeks or even days, by utter failure.

The workshop is led by clinical psychologist Robert Kegan, PhD, and Lisa Lahey, EdD, experts in adult learning at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. They've spent more than 20 years wondering why it is that people don't change, studying those—the few—who have successfully broken a habit and the many who, despite repeated attempts, can't. Eventually, they arrived at a theory, the premise of which became the title for their new book, Immunity to Change. Their metaphor, invoking the body's exquisite ability to ward off disease and invasion, is apt: Our best efforts to change, the researchers claim, are routinely overwhelmed by forces within us.

Kegan and Lahey have spent decades working with small groups of educators who wanted to improve their skills as teachers and administrators. They now shepherd several thousand people a year through the process they've developed. Like their book, these sessions tend to be skewed toward organizations and their leaders, but their method works as well for individuals looking to make changes as it does for executives looking to tweak their management style.

Today, under Kegan and Lahey's guidance, our group begins to engage in some supervised soulsearching. They hand us a four-column worksheet that Kegan describes as "a mental map that functions as an X-ray." For the first column, Kegan and Lahey tell us, pick a goal, one that would make a significant difference in our lives. A New Year's resolution, maybe. Or the promise we've been making (and breaking) for years. In the second column, they ask us to list all the ways that we routinely kneecap ourselves.

As an example, they bring up a former workshop participant—a superstar CEO they call Peter. Focused, disciplined, the co-founder of a multibillion-dollar company, he's the kind of person who decides to lose 10 pounds, does it in a few months, and keeps the weight off for years. But he's been less successful in softening his top-down management approach. In column one of the worksheet, Peter wrote that his goals were to delegate more and become more open to his staff's ideas. In column two, he easily identified how he sabotaged himself: by not seeking out other opinions, cutting off staffers mid-thought, and not empowering them to make their own decisions.

What's striking about Kegan and Lahey's approach is that it recognizes the often good, if poorly understood, reasons for Peter's behavior (and, by extension, our own). Our flat-out failure to bring about the change we desire is not for lack of good intentions. Whatever it is that we resolved to do or to stop doing in the past, they don't doubt that we meant it. While we beat ourselves up over our lack of willpower, our laziness, our weakness, our dark side that wins out time and again—Kegan and Lahey say those change-resistant behaviors have a very good reason for being.

"What you see as demonic is actually in some ways a very tender expression," says Lahey, "a protection of something you feel vulnerable about." Kegan adds: "The behavior you're trying to extinguish or diminish, let's say, the way you're eating or overeating—you're only looking at it as bad." But, he says, it's just the tip of the iceberg. "And until you can get below the waterline, you can't see why this behavior is brilliant."

What lies underneath the surface is anxiety, which, Kegan and Lahey explain, they have come to appreciate as "the most important—and least understood—private emotion in public life." Most of us think of anxiety as panic attacks or stage fright, acute episodes brought on by a big presentation to the boss or some other high-stakes occasion. Or a condition specific to people who were traumatized as children or survived some harrowing event. But Kegan and Lahey see anxiety as our brain's background noise, revving up when we're confronted with something new, unfamiliar, or threatening, and operating most of the time at such a low volume that we don't even hear it. "We all have anxiety, just by virtue of being human," Lahey says.

We don't think of ourselves as continually fearful, Kegan says, because we've figured out how to manage this undercurrent of anxiety—whether it's our discomfort at meeting new people, our worry when talking to the boss, or our indecision in the jam aisle of the supermarket. "For instance, I may have a deep-running anxiety that you don't think well enough of me," says Kegan. "But I don't live my life every day like I'm walking on eggshells, because I'm very tuned in to what you want or need in order to continue to have a high opinion of me. I use my energy to make sure that I keep delivering what I believe it is that you want. As a result, I don't feel the anxiety because I'm handling it."

At this point in our session, Kegan and Lahey turn the discussion to column three to identify our own buried anxiety. They ask us: What would happen if we stopped the behavior that gets in the way of achieving the goals we've set for ourselves? The room goes quiet. That simple question triggers a litany of potential catastrophes—which turn out to be surprisingly personal.

As Kegan and Lahey explain in their book, this is the moment Peter the CEO realized that if he did delegate, he would lose the sense of himself as "the super problem solver, the one who knows best, the one who is in control—yesterday, today, and tomorrow." Peter's mind was in the grip of equal and opposite impulses, prompting him to describe himself as having "one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake." No wonder our attempts to change grind to a halt.

Kegan and Lahey give examples of other clients who resort to the same problem behavior, each of them in response to different obscured anxieties. One woman eats too much because she doesn't like the overtly sexual way men respond to her when she's thin. One man binges as a way of accepting the love of his big Italian-American family.

Kegan and Lahey are in awe of the ingenuity with which we—all of us—keep our lives under control, to make sure that our anxiety is kept at bay and our fears never come true. "And life could just go on that way," Kegan says, "except that the system, this anxiety management system you've built, charges rent. It's costing you something. And what does it cost you? It costs you your goal."

It takes a little time for our group to get to the bottom of the anxiety that motivates each of us. Then Kegan and Lahey lead us through the last step. They urge us to reframe our fears in the context of the "big assumptions" that underlie them—ideas we take for granted about the way the world works and our place in it. Our parents convey to us their understanding of life, Kegan and Lahey explain, and we often take their opinions as fact. For Peter, the belief that needed to be challenged was: "If I want something done right, I have to do it myself." Kegan and Lahey throw out other examples to our group, assumptions like "If I say no, I'll lose people's friendship and respect" or "If I paid attention to my appetite, I'd never stop eating." We find this section easy to complete. Within ten minutes, each of us lists a number of things we believe to be The Way Things Are.

In some instances, Kegan and Lahey say, these fears may prove to be justified. But they usually aren't. For all its intelligence, our psychological immune system is not infallible. Like our physical immune system, it sometimes sounds the alarm in situations when it shouldn't. "When it rejects new material, internal or external to the body, that the body needs to heal itself or to thrive, the immune system can put us in danger," Kegan and Lahey write. "It does not understand that it must alter its code. It does not understand that, ironically, in working to protect us, it is actually putting us at serious risk."

Traditional psychotherapy trusts that the truth will set the patient free, that the power of insight will overhaul the behavior you're looking to change. But as any disillusioned analysand can tell you, arriving at some deeper awareness of how you're screwed up doesn't necessarily make you less screwed up. That's why this final step of the process is a little demoralizing. Confronted with the evidence of why our past attempts to change had been doomed to failure, we sit, staring glumly at our X-rays. "This is a perfect system you've created," Kegan tells us, and we have to admit he's right. As much as we want to finally make that New Year's resolution stick, it turns out we are equally committed to another, previously hidden, agenda. So Kegan and Lahey ask us to devise "experiments," starting out small, to test our assumptions. Someone like Peter, who is trying to break a lifelong control habit, might choose to delegate a task that isn't life-or-death to the most capable member of his staff and see what happens. Someone else might decide to say no to a dear friend and see how he or she responds. The man who struggles with his Italian family might commit to 24 hours of eating only when he's hungry and see how it goes.

Surviving tests like these, Kegan and Lahey tell us, puts you in a position to question ideas you've understood as universal truths, and with those changes in your mind-set come changes in your behavior. In their years of experience, Kegan and Lahey have seen people make enormous shifts—they've lost the weight, stuck to the fitness program, learned how to manage their temper, finally cleaned up their office. To our group, this kind of transformation feels daunting, but more promising than another round of New Year's resolutions, that's for sure. For the first time, we understand what we are up against—not the evil within us but our own ingenuity, well-meaning but misguided. What a relief that turns out to be. Not a solution but a place to start.

A Better You, NOW?

Everyone has a “get rich quick” scheme!

Every one has adopted the “name it and claim” fabrication!

Every where there is a “process” or “program” for attracting the love of your life, all the money you desire and the body of a God/dess!

And it seems that everyone is an “expert” of this or a “guru” of that with lofty promises of making you a guru too!

In the words of Malcolm X, You’ve been had! Hoodwinked! Bamboozled and led astray! And not necessarily in this order!

Well DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE! And it’s all “hype!” You cannot microwave your way to health in 10 minutes! And success is not a mirage! Health, Love, Money and Fame will not come by way of smoke and mirrors! So stop falling for the okie-doke! You will not blink your eyes and land on top of the mountain, neither will you amass fame and fortune in your life by fast talking, quick thinking, scheming lies!
Sorry,  I must keep it 100!  I give it to you straight, no artificial flavors, sugars are additives! Hard work, has become a term of profanity and success has become a con game!

Well I for one have had it! So if you are ready to roll up your sleeves and have the drive, guts and determination to get in the driver’s seat of your life and stop being persuaded by the “green grass” in the other guy’s yard and are ready to take care of your own lawn and sow your own seeds so that you may reap a bountiful harvest, then let’s do it together.

In the words of Michael Jackson, “I’m starting with the man in the mirror and I’m asking him to change his ways. No message could have been any clearer”…IF you want to make this world a better place you gotta start with you.

7 Questions To Finding Your True Passion By Frederic Premji

According to a recent survey, about 75% of the population do not know what their true passion is. Clearly, almost everyone seems to not be doing what they were meant to do. This is an eye-opener because doing what we really love is absolutely necessary if we want to be fully happy. Perhaps this is why there is so much unhappiness going on in our society, people just aren’t doing what they are here on Earth for. Finding your true passion isn’t as simple as it may seem. For some, yes it does come naturally, but most of the time, you have to ask yourself some questions to pinpoint exactly what you were born to do. Here are my 7 questions that can guide you to finding your ultimate passion:

What puts a smile on your face?
Is there a particular event, a particular topic that makes your whole face just lighten up? Whatever it is that makes you smile, and makes you happy whenever you encounter it, this is a sign of something you are passionate about. I truly believe that happiness and passion walk hand in hand. Both require each other. So following what makes you truly happy is a wonderful way to figuring out what you were put on Earth for. Think about something that you do or that perhaps you used to do that brings total peace to you when you do it. Peace is happiness, and happiness is passion.

What do you find easy?
Usually, what we find easy for us to do, will be related to what we are passionate about. It’s very hard to hate something that is very easy for us! For example, let’s say you are naturally good at playing the piano, you will find the activity easy, and this ease makes it much more fun for you. Fun leads to happiness and happiness is synonymous with passion :) So assess everything that you do, whatever it is that you find really easy and fun, this may very well be your passion. And don’t think that anything is off limits or silly. Some people have taken their passion for skateboarding, drawing, or collecting to full fledged careers. Remember this, you can make a career out of anything you are passionate about.

What sparks your creativity?
One of my passions growing up was hockey. It’s not too surprising, being Canadian and all ;) But I remember playing for hours and hours, and always coming up with different plays, and different methods to score goals. I was always full of creativity when playing hockey. Later in life, I developed similar creativity in business. Think about something in your life where you seem to always expand its horizon, always coming up with new, fun, and exciting ideas relating to that subject. Whatever makes you creative, is probably something that you are very passionate about.

What would you do for free?
In this society, we are ruled by the almighty dollar. That’s the way the system works, and that’s the game we have to play. The problem is, this leads many people to seek making money first, instead of what makes them happy. I have read countless number of stories about stock brokers and doctors for example, leaving their high paying positions to follow what they really love. There is a reason for that. I truly believe that if you follow what you are passionate about without thinking about if it will make you rich or not, you will end up being successful. Doing what you have a passion for brings out your best, and this leads to greatness. Greatness breezes to success. Do you think that the most successful people in the world got to where they are because they wanted to get rich? Absolutely not, they did what they were so passionate about, and their immense success was just a byproduct of their dedication. So think about something that you would just love to do, even if you were not getting paid. Think about something that you look forward to do, something that you wish you could do all the time.

What do you like to talk about?
The topics of conversation we have can definitely tell what we are interested in, and this is a good way to find out what we really enjoy in life. Most of the time, we aren’t totally aware of this. This is why, a very good way to figure this out properly, is to ask your friends. Ask them what they believe you like to talk about the most. Ask them what topic makes your eyes brighten up, and changes your entire behavior. I can guarantee you that some of their answers will be surprising to you. Some of these things weren’t that clear to you, but your friends can see the reaction on your face that you can’t see yourself. Try it out, it’s a very insightful exercise, and one that can direct you closer to figuring out your passion.

What makes you unafraid of failure?
When we do what we are passionate about, we have total confidence in our abilities. This makes us not worry about failing, because in our mind, how can we fail when we do what we love? Doing what you love is a success in and of itself, so failure is like an impossibility. Think of something that you just do or want to do, no matter what. Something that you do not have second thoughts about. Think about something that you feel you must do and that failure is not even a concern of yours, because the mere act of doing it is like the journey and the destination all wrapped up in one. This may very well be your true passion.

What would you regret not having tried?
We all have these dreams, and somehow, life pushes us in another direction, and next thing we know, we are far from those dreams we used to have. If you were at the end of your life, what would you regret not having pursued? What would you have liked to do, that you didn’t get a chance to? Think about what that might be. Whatever it is that you may experience regret now or later on for not having tried, this is a good chance to be your true passion. There is nothing worse than arriving at the end of the journey and having regret. This is why finding your passion, and following it is so important. Live your life so that you do not have regrets.

The Dirtiest Four Letter Word by Carl Reid

This article was originally published in The Productivity Institute (PI) Newsletter

When my daughter was about 3 or 4 I began asking her to do things to push her past her limits. She always felt she performed quite well, because she received a lot of encouragement for just attempting to do things most people would say 4-5-6-7-8 year olds aren’t capable of doing. I would get her to do things, like asking her to take her bowl and put it in the sink. Although I knew she couldn’t reach the sink, I just wanted her to try to reach anyway. Dropping the bowl was OK. After a couple of futile attempts, I picked her up so she could place the bowl in the sink. She still felt accomplished in feeling like she still did it herself. Another time I asked her to help me clean an imaginary dirt spot on the wall that was out of her reach. After she tried and figured out she couldn’t reach, I picked her up. She cleaned the spot. She felt very satisfied with her accomplishment.

Not yet 4 1/2 years old, one day I asked her to count to 10. She hadn’t been taught yet, but I thought I would really push her. She responded with the nastiest little word. I told her, if she said that “bad word” again, I would wash her mouth out with soap. I came from the bathroom, with a bar of soap to show her I meant business. I asked her again to count to 10. She said that 4 letter word again, more adamantly. I rubbed my finger across the wet bar of soap and rubbed my fingered across her lips. As soon as she licked her lips, she proceeded to cry from the awful soap taste. She ran to her mother to sooth the distaste on her lips. When I told her mother about my request, she [mother] freaked out. Mother also said the same dirty word, in referring to my daughter’s limited knowledge. I was a maniac, as far as her mother was concerned.

I pulled my daughter from the safety of her mother’s arms. As I visibly rubbed my finger over the soap bar, I asked my daughter to count to 10. She already knew the result of saying the bad 4 letter word. So she thought carefully. The most amazing thing happened. She turned around with her back to me and said “help me daddy”. This was symbolic. She knew every time I picked her up, she always accomplished something.
That dirty word did not appear in my daughter’s vocabulary again, until her second year in high school. She didn’t do well in history. I asked her “what is the problem”. She responded with that dirty word in a complete sentence. I proceeded to the bathroom and she changed her tune with a quick retraction and apology for using that word. So we continued with planning actions for improving her report card. She past all her subjects, including history, on the next report card. It’s phenomenal how eliminating that nasty word helped her accomplish so many things over the years.

The odd thing is this 4 letter word is socially acceptable in any gathering of people. No one gives it a second thought. Very few people realize the damage this nasty word does to other people. It cripples many people. People hear this word, pass it on to other people and more people hurt themselves saying it. Many parents think nothing of saying this word to their children in every day conversation.

People miss out, on opportunities, raises, going to college, moving up the corporate ladder, starting a business, settling a dispute, forgiving a family member, meeting a new friend, taking a trip, learning something new, negotiating a better deal, just by uttering this word constantly. Drum roll please . . . the dirtiest 4 letter word, which should be stricken from the English dictionary, is: Can’t

I can’t do it *It can’t work * You can’t have everything you want * It can’t be done * You can’t do that
Who wants their mouth washed out with soap?

Air castles and the beliefs that drive them By Wendy Y Bailey

Sometimes your group learner is "building air castles."  That's when she's not being honest or truthful with herself.  My 79 year old mom says that's what my grandmother called it when you make up stories that have no basis in reality.  Hilarious, heh?

Each person in your group brings her own set of unique experiences to every group coaching session.  These experiences always color what she hears, sees and thinks — and more importantly, what she believes to be true.  Her beliefs shape every resulting action and you're there to help her tune into the truth.
So, what do you do when your group learner is building air castles?
Very simply, you coach!  Building air castles offers a perfect opportunity to laser coach her right there in the midst of the session.  Simultaneously, you encourage all of your group learners to create a listening and supportive circle.  Your learner has an aha moment and sometimes - no, most of the time - the learners within that supportive circle, have their own very personal and powerful breakthroughs too.

One of the five essential areas for transforming your learner via laser coaching is PERCEPTION.  Think of perception as a direct line to your learner's beliefs - the internal place and space from which she operates.  It's the place that speaks to how she they feels, how she reacts, how she responds to any situation she encounters.

Laser coaching helps her to know, feel, think and believe differently.  It's all about shifting the perception and stop her from building air castles.

For ONE LAST TIME, I'm 33 Minute Mastery: Group Coaching in 33 Minutes.  In 33 Minute Mastery, I share techniques on how to shift the beliefs of your learners via laser coaching.  Join me for this last LIVE group coaching experience of one of my bestselling group coaching programs.
