It's Your Call

"Your calling is an invitation to live the life you are meant to live. You are called to become the person you were created to be and do the things you were designed to do. As you live your calling, you will find the purpose for which you were born."

I read this statement and I could not agree more. Many of us are baffled by the questions, Why am I here, and What Am I suppose to do while I am here. Or the world's most famous question, "What on earth am I here for?" Now you many have asked these questions several times in several different ways but let me ask you this. Do you have an answer?

A FedEx commercial parodied the movie Cast Away, in which Tom Hanks played a FedEx worker whose company plane went down, stranding him on a remote island for years. Looking like the bedraggled Hanks from the movie, the FedEx employee in the commercial walks up to the door of a home, holding a package. When a woman comes to the door, he explains that he survived five years on an island, protecting this package in order to deliver it to her. Curious, he asks her to reveal what is in it. Opening the package and displaying the contents, the woman replies that there was nothing of great importance; just a GPS navigational device, a compass, a satellite telephone, a water purifier, and assorted seeds.

Many times, everything that we need to find our life calling is right inside of us. We are walking around lost with the package that can end our plight. We are just to aware to open it and see what it says. For the most part we believe it cant be that simple. I must suffer a while. I must ponder this like the great minds of old. However, when we finally give in to what is the truth of the matter, we realize that the very things we love to do, the very things that pull us in...have a great deal to do with our purpose in life. Our calling. Our destiny.

So here are some steps to help you filter through your package and understand what is inside of you.
  1. Obtain a journal or notebook to record the events of your journey.
  2. Enlarge your vision of what you can do.
  3. Learn how to make good decisions.
  4. Consider emotional, psychological, spiritual, and lifestyle issues that can get you stuck as you seek to find and fulfill your mission in life.
  5. Motivate yourself to take action.
  6. Learn how to live your calling successfully.
  7. Find one or more companions to share the journey.
